Obviously, Adaptec does not have a consistent attitude on this, as FreeBSD does provide support for two other Adaptec cards. Was I supposed to know this beforehand? : But, I can't see Terry's point in spending lots of time and money : trying to develop for a product that the developer actively tries to : discourage. I say screw 'em! There are other companies out there who : make products that work with NetBSD, FreeBSD, and Linux who will be : glad to tell you how they work. Support those companies -- don't buy : from a company who couldn't care less if their policies make their : products unusable on your OS of choice. This goes both for Adaptec : and Diamond.) Amen. I agree completely. But this is not mentioned clearly enough in the FAQ (IMHO). There ought to be a disclaimer in bold, near the front, which says "WE WILL NOT SUPPORT ADAPTEC BECAUSE THEY DO NOT RELEASE PROGRAMMING INFORMATION EXCEPT UNDER NON-DISCLOSURE. DO NOT BUY ADAPTEC CONTROLLERS!" Kind of like the one in the Xfree86 FAQ, which says that about Diamond.
