This whole article is completely irelevant IMHO. I am currently
running FreeBSD 1.1.5 and still frequently use XFree86 2.0 that was
compiled under FreeBSD 1.1 with dynamic libs as well as the programs
rxvt and fvwm. Until I recompiled everything all my binaries were
linked against libs 1.0 and worked fine when I installed the 1.1 libs
and deleted all the 1.0 libs. There are no symlinks here. :)

I also still have some binaries in my /usr/local/bin tree that are
from (in chronological order) 386bsd 0.1 w/pk2.4, FreeBSD versions 1.0e,
1.02 and 1.1. They all work just dandy. I daily use the rzsz binaries that
I compiled under 386bsd 0.1 w/pk2.4 (If it ain't broke why fix it ;)

As far as I know FreeBSD 1.1.5 is fully 100% backward
compatible with all previous versions. The only gotchas' are in trying
to run a 1.1.5 compiled program on a 1.1r system and some minor changes
in the passwd db routines (these passwd changes do not prevent binaries
from running but you might see anoying messages on the console for
statically linked programs from prior to 1.1r that access the passwd
file.)

P.S. I've worn a pointy hat often enough that I can say. "Test things
out first on your own before posting!" ;)
