It's gotta be something simple ... can anyone help??? This one is not really documented anywhere easy to find. You need to hit <ctrl> <alt> fn key to switch out of X to a different virtual console. You might also want to use comcontrol to set the dtrwait on your mouse to 0, otherwise switching consoles takes a few seconds longer. Also sometimes the ctrl or alt keys sort of get stuck in a manner similar to capslock. If you hit the ctrl or alt key again after switching vty's it untoggles the sticking.
