I think Warner has been playing with the latest gcc releases and hasn't reported any problem getting 2.5.8 running. However, he's reported PLENTY of problems with 2.5.8's c++ compiler. Gcc 2.5.8 is just full of bugs which is why FreeBSD hasn't upgraded from 2.4.5. When 2.6 comes out we'll look at that and see if it's any better. I don't know if Warner reads this group but I know he's been beating on the pre-2.6 release code so he could probably give us some indication as to whether its in decent shape. Why do you need 2.5.8 anyway? -- Paul Richards, FreeBSD core team member.
