There are indeed two free *BSD kernel variants (NetBSD and FreeBSD;
386BSD is an old version, superseded by the two much improved versions.)
(There are also different variants of the Linux kernel, e.g. with BSD
networking code, but we'll just keep ignoring facts as is traditional.)

Let's try this:

UNIX:       AIX, HP-UX, OSF/1, SunOS/Solaris, Linux, BSD, UNI/XT, A/UX,
	    Ultrix, Xenix, Unicos, plus dozens more
Windows NT: Windows NT

Since less is better (?) and the mere existence of related operating
systems detracts from their usefulness (??), we just have proved NT
the perfect operating system.  Puke.

There are two free maintained BSD distributions: NetBSD and FreeBSD.
For different needs. One if you want a free UNIX. The other if you
want a free UNIX. (Spot the difference and win a trip around the world!)

Both distributions can be tailored to various needs, e.g. by
adding/deleting device drivers and using "ftp" to get new user
programs and "rm" to remove superfluous ones.
