It has been discussed in other forum (fori?) that gcc 2.6.0 moves
around assembler instructions in inline functions too much (eg puts a
seti/clri out of place) and that Linux kernels built with it have some
problems due to these factors.

I'd urge some amount of caution until these issues are resolved.  They
usually are.  I think that 2.5.0 had similar problems, but 2.5.8
didn't, for example.
