The version is a beta version which is buggy, slow, unstable, and has all the other bad properties you would not like to see with any software. The XFree86 team is busy to fix all these bugs, this will result in a fixed version XFree86 3.1 (no comments on the release date). As long as the fixed version is not available, please stick with XFree86-2.1. It is not worthwhile to hack the R6 version at this moment.
