Make it 143.54.7.255. Also, do you have a default route installed to your router? For example, here at Iowa State, there is a router port for each subnet at .254, so subnet 140 would have a router as its default route at 129.186.140.254 (yours will probably be different). Use netstat -r to see what your default route is.
