(Anarchy) I't easy to be an anounymous reader on the net, but when you are posting things there is really no difference between news and mailing lists. Also, on the mailing lists I have seen (I am not on the BSD lists) there was at least as much noise and flaming as on the Linux newsgroups. IMHO the only valid reason for using mailing lists vs. newsgroups is the network bandwidth you save when sending info to a small group. When there are a lot of people on the mailinglist, the situation is reversed and you are wasting bandwidth.
