Do you have configured yourself a kernel or are you using the GENERICAH or GENERICBT kernel ? Does the DAT drive show up in the kernel boot messages ? Make sure it is switched on, when you boot FreeBSD. You may also play around with a cartrdige inserted or not inserted on startup and on trying the st/mt commands. For FreeBSD 2.0 or 2.1 we need to resolve the problem with the two commands to handle streamers ( mt and st ). Try out both on the nrst0 device. The message above looks like the streamer is not even recognized by the kernel so the first important question is if the drive was recognized on startup. -- ATS ( ats@first.gmd.de or ats@cs.tu-berlin.de ) Andreas Schulz GMD-FIRST 12489 Berlin-Adlershof Rudower Chaussee 5 Gebaeude 13.7 Tel: +49-30-6392-1856 Germany/Europe
