Why?!?! : Friends of mine had a similar problem under Linux. The solution there : was to ensure all shadowing and/or caching was turned *off* in the : BIOS. Apparently it screws with the Linux (and possibly BSD) VM system. i had a similar problem with freebsd which was solved when i changed from 12mb ram to 8mb ram for the compile. system otherwise works with 12. turning off shadowing/caching should be tried first, tho (didn't work for me, apparently works for others)
