For the disktab an IDE drive is a ST506 drive. : Don't forget, IDE is only a superset of ST506. If you go further : in the install with the dt=st506, are you running into other failures ? Yes, When i get past the filesyst disk and after copying the kernal to the hard drive the install says to reboot from the hard drive. When i do this it boots part of the way, i see the familliar three lines that FreeBSD always shows, then it reboots. It does this endlessly. I've seen in the 386bsd FAQ that this is due to the machine trying to reed data before the drive is ready, and that it can be solved most of the time by slowing the clock speed. But this hasn't helped me.
