I recently used my FreeBSD 1.1.5.1 to connect to a slip terminal server at 38400. At least it was 38400 on the command line... I used 'cu -l /dev/cua01 -s 38400' to connect. And it worked without problem for a longer time. I also had reasonable transfer speeds using ftp, which indicate that the connection could be used at full speed.
