Message-ID: <081QB6KO@math.fu-berlin.de> Summary: Diamonds appear instead of characters when display-tables are active Keywords: i486 FreeBSD emacs-19.25 display-table diamond Organization: Free University of Berlin, Germany Date: Wed, 27 Jul 1994 18:44:07 GMT Distribution: world Approved: info-gnu@prep.ai.mit.edu Path: sserve!newshost.anu.edu.au!munnari.oz.au!news.Hawaii.Edu!ames!nntp-server.caltech.edu!netline-fddi.jpl.nasa.gov!elroy.jpl.nasa.gov!usc!howland.reston.ans.net!europa.eng.gtefsd.com!MathWorks.Com!news2.near.net!bloom-beacon.mit.edu!ai-lab!prep.ai.mit.edu!gnu Followup-To: gnu.emacs.bug,gnu.emacs.help,de.comp.gnu,comp.os.386bsd.apps Lines: 28 Hi all, I have a problem with my new installation of emacs-19.25 on a i486-freebsd site: When I define a display table (e.g. by standard-display-european), the behavior of character input becomes weird. The problem is, that when I press any key (say `a'), I don't get an `a' but the character number 4 (which is a diamond (playing card character) on my console). This character is invariant, regardless of the key I press or the entry in the standard-display-table at place 4. But the string of diamonds suddenly becomes a string of letters (exactly those I pressed before), when the screen is refreshed due to an event like pressing RET right at the end of the line or a DEL, or a scrolling. This looks like a game like `guess what I have just typed!' but I don't really feel like playing games. The problem occurs only when I want to append characters at the end of a line, if there is even a single space before the point and the end of the line, everything is all right. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks a lot, -Gunther -- Gunther Schadow_________________________Hopfenweg 19, Berlin 12357, FR.
