That's something I'm working on.  Eventually, I hope to release a new
version of ppp with a `demand' option for pppd, as well as
BSD-Compress implemented (maybe).  Part of the fun, of course, is
making sure it works under as many as possible of NetBSD, FreeBSD,
SunOS 4, Ultrix, Linux, etc.  And I also intend to have a Solaris 2
port soon.
