The pppd daemon  present  in FreeBSD 1.1.5.x   is the 2.0.4 and deals  with
routes quite  nicely  by itself if    you add the  defaultroute  keyword in
/etc/ppp/options or on the command line.

I have no problem with that... My disconnecting script is

kill -HUP `cat /var/run/ppp0.pid`
