BTW: I only know about FreeBSD 1.1.5.1 ;-) Did you use the kernel options XSERVER UCONSOLE in your new kernel config file ?! Do you use the correct X Server for your ET4000 card ? Look, if /usr/bin/X11/X points to the XF86_SVGA X Server ! Did you configure the Xconfig file correctly ? Did you try X -probeonly >& logfile; cat logfile That starts the X Server for Hardware probing and writes the output into a logfile for later examination. Look closely to every line of output. Look for missing font paths, look, if the mouse port could be opened, and so on .... And RTFM ... /usr/lib/X11/etc/....
