The problem with my IDE drive in an older machine and FreeBSD turned out to be very close to many of the suggestions: 1. FreeBSD had no trouble reading my IDE drive and installed just fine as it went. 2. My BIOS did not recognize drive type 47 (installed by the Conner utility accompanying the drive. That utility relied on a DOS driver to interpret the drive for MS DOS. 3. My PC Setup program turned out to have an *undocumented* switch allowing me to "customize" the drive. My troubles were over once I discovered that switch. (setup /c for what its worth). When I re-setup my BIOS to the specifics of the drive, using the setup switch above, FreeBSD booted just fine. Thanks again, Eb Guenther (I don't know why my computer keeps calling me Ed).
