I open /dev/cua01 inside the script and then use expect to deal with initializing the modem, dialing, etc. Once a connection is established, I close /dev/cua01 in the script and then start pppd. However, due to the above-noted behaviour, pppd fails due to /dev/cua01 being busy. Well, for one thing, it sounds like you're trying to make things way more complicated than they need to be. On my NetBSD system, I just use the "connect" option to pppd, and use a chat script from connect. It works perfectly every time. -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Michael L.
