What I did was pay extra and buy from a local screwdriver shop that guaranteed
it'd work under FreeBSD or they'd make it work. I probably ended up paying
quite a bit too much 'cos it took them long enough to make it work that
prices were down significantly... but I'd rather lose out on a month of the
system than end up with something that's flaking out on me.

Since most of the mail order places are pretty much the same sort of shop...
just in another town... you end up with the same prices plus tax plus whatever
they decide to soak you for the guarantee. And you get to try YOUR software
out on their machine before you buy it.
