I've had over 30-day uptimes on my machine, and it hasn't crashed in *ages*, except for one recent period where an mbuf bug was introduced, then quickly squashed (don't tell me Bill never has bugs in his system -- of course, we'll never know because only the angels and/or devils (take your pick) ever see his pre-release code). What's more, the NetBSD machine in our office that we use as our SLIP/PPP server/router, had an uptime of 73 days, until we voluntarily shut it down to install another serial card in it. Yes, that's SEVENTY-THREE DAYS, routing SLIP and PPP connections the entire time. What's this you talk about mythical debugged and reliable status? Seems quite real to me. Remember, the original poster *did* specifically ask about using SLIP. And your answer was to tell him he should use some system that nobody knows if it will even do slip reliably! Talk about quasi-releases... Jesus, you have a real interesting skew on reality. The only quasi-anything here is this quasi-release of 386BSD-1.0, which, even after having been advertised in a national publication for months, nobody has yet actually seen. -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Michael L.
