And "promise" seems to remain the watchword. When can you actually lay
your hands on a 386BSD 1.0 CD or fetch the bits from your favorite ftp
site? Repeat those time-honored words after me, folks: Real Soon Now!

Fine, we even believe you (sort of). But then the question still remains:

"Why follow Bill?"

The other *BSD's are delivering solutions NOW, have delivered solutions for
the last 18 months, during which time Bill had abandoned his users to an
uncertain fate, and show every sign of continuing to do so. Considering
that Bill's track record, not to put too fine a point on it, SUCKS, why
should we trust him?

Bill sort of reminds me of DEC. An often brilliant company, one that brought
us many milestones in computing, but also a company that screwed its users
once too often with delayed promises and expensive switch-a-roos. Meanwhile,
its competition quietly went ahead and delivered good hardware in a TIMELY
fashion and they ate DEC's lunch. Might we learn something from this
small parable? I have, but somehow, I do not think that Jesus has or will.
He continues to follow his beloved guru no matter what direction he might lead.

I also went to the talk, and saw little or no clothes on the Emperor (well,
perhaps a modest loincloth). More details on that little soire' later..
