OK! Let me first explain that I am finally getting ready to purchase a
system to use with FreeBSD. I have read the FAQs and the opinions here
on what works well and now I have some final questions.

I have decided to use a PCI system that uses a SCSI controller. I have
repeatedly seen good comments about the NCR53c810. I want to know if
this is just the name for NCR's 810 chip, or if it is the actual model
of the SCSI board. I would also like to have a list of possible other
SCSI boards that are using NCR's 810 chip (if this is possible).

Also, I would like to use my monitor in 1280 X 1024 reslolution and would
like to know if anyone has recomendations on what to use so that it is
TOTALLY FLICKER FREE! I know that Idec has a reasonably priced 17 inch
monitor that has a vertical scan rate of 80Hz. I am also interested in
15 inch monitors, although 17 would really be nice. There are also some
video adapters that output up to 120Hz vertical rate (like #9 GXE64 Pro)
that I might use with the monitor (does anyone know what ATI Graphics Pro
Turbo's {Mach64} rate is?).

Also, there was recently a warning that if I use a SCSI disk to boot from,
that I need to make sure that the mother board has SMDS ROMs. I don't
remember reading that in the FAQ. Could someone give some further
explanation? What is the chance that any motherboard I might get has
this ROM set?

I guess what I am looking for is confirmations, dissuasions, and personal
comments from those in a better position to have an opinion. (Oh, by the
way, this will be on a pentium system.) I just want to make sure that the
system is right from ground zero, no mistakes.

Thanks in advance for all your help.
