Heck, there is more software in the Slackware distribution than there is precompiled for *BSD. FreeBSD's bindist doesn't even come with elm. If precompiled software is important to you, definitely stay with Linux. FYI, I currently run Linux, FreeBSD and BSDi's BSD/386 here.
