After listening some guys around and in the net,
(Check the comp.periph.scsi newsgroup), I decided to buy a
Quantum 540. One argument (not rational maybe) I liked is
that Hewlett Packard and Macintosh use the Quantum drives.
Here at my work (A College) the guy who installs HD on the PC's for the
student, refered much less bad sectors developed after use on other HD than on
the Quantum drives. They also said taht Quantum drives are quite silent as
compared to others.
I omit personal opinions of satisfied users because they would not have any
statistical significance (sorry, I am a physicist :-) ) for you guys, but of
course I am open to hear them.
Here some technical specs of the 2 drives of that capacity from Quantum:
1. Prodrive LPS540S,12 ms, (is it Fast?) SCSI-2, 128 Kb cache. 2 yrs. warranty
2. Empire 540, 8 ms, Fast SCSI-2, supports SCSI-3 (I am not so sure about
this).
So I tried to get the lowest price on the LPS540S, but in the meantime was
offered a Conner CFA540, SCSI-2,10ms, 256Kb cache at the same price as the
LPS540S.
Does anybody know some pros and cons ob these two drives?
Is the Conner drive noisy?
Thanks,
Lazaro
It comes in two models: Prodrive LPS540S,
