Bash is THE ONLY shell which currently supports the IEEE 1003.2 POSIX standard. By my measurements, Bash is more than half the size of emacs 18, including the X support. Bash is about three times the size of the Plan 9 kernel. Plan 9 + the 8.5 window system + the rc shell is still smaller. Something's out of hand in Unix land.
