Have a look at NQM (Network Queue Management) which is a software
package for automated output management in a mixed CPU environment.
NQM is based on a central Unix server (request broker) to support a variety of
user desktops for the task of distributed printing. NQM supports both a user
and a sysadm. interface to control the many features of NQM.
NQM manages device settings via a Motif GUI, like: baud, parity, flow-
control etc. for serial devices, and IPaddress, IPport for direct TCP printing.
Advanced options for controlling electronic forms, font management, tray
selection, duplex, booklet etc are also managed via a Motif point & click GUI.
A new version of NQM is being released (v2.2) with support for most Unix
machines, VAX/VMS 5.5 and Windows 3.1 clients.
NQM - Network Queue Management version 2.2:
* Central Management (request broker) & distributed print supervisors.
* Motif based sysadmin interface.
* CLI submission, control, and status program.
* Unlimited number of queues and clients.
* Queue control: Start/stop/hold/resume/(un)block/remove/create.
* Job control: Suspend/cancel/resume/delete
* Accounting, media, CPU usage.
* Electronic form management.
* Notification and printer status feed-back like paper out, jam.
* Forms mounted on queues for an automatic job release/retain.
New! * Windows(TM) 3.1 client. Bi-directional control via Print Manager.
* Queue Chaining. (ex: A queue xwd2dev -> xwd2ps + ps2dev)
* Load Leveling queues. (Also across CPU's)
* Filter queues, (xwd, pcx, gif, tiff, pcl, eps, ps...)
* Customizable filter queue: any2any
* Job log. Capture stdout, stderr from any process.
* ACL's. Users/groups may be blocked or allowed to certain printers.
* Link to lpr/lpd serving hosts.
* Direct TCP printing to terminal servers, and printers.
* Job aging, re-queuing of old jobs after normal/error completion.
* Parallel spooling and job execution.
* PostScript page selecting, booklet- and Nup printing.
* Customize banner page (PS, PCL, Text).
* Generic device drivers for PostScript, PCL, Text.
* Specialized TCP/IP drivers for HP4, QMS Crown, Raw Socket, RTEL.
* Specialized TCP/IP drivers for Microplex, Xyplex print server boxes.
