I only have one serial line and I want to be able to call out and dial in on that line. I run rc.serial to setup my port (using the supplied settings in the file) from rc. After this, I can dial out no problem. But, I can't start getty on the dialin port (in my case cua00/ttyd0). I edited /etc/ttys to change the line speed and to turn on getty for the dialin line (ttyd0). I then did a 'kill -1 1' by hand, which killed X on me and lit up almost every light on the modem. So, I tried from outside X. Same thing (except it didn't kill X :-). Needless to say, when this happens I can't dial out either and I have to go back and turn off the getty. What am I missing or setting incorrectly?! Some one recently asked a similar question to this. Andreas replied that he should read the FAQ (specifically section 8.5.2 I think). Well, I haven't found any reference to this in any FAQ I've seen. Also, I couldn't find the section to which Andreas referred. Which FAQ might this be and where is it? I've checked on cdrom.com and every where else I could think of. Any help would be very much appreciated. Andy BTW While I'm here... I posted a question a while ago and Steve Ratliff solved my problem. Thanks Steve. I tried sending mail but it bounced. -- Andy Hogben Informix Software, Inc., Menlo Park, CA ahogben@informix.com
