Yes, we have a FreeBSD pc with 2 SMC Ultra Elite working as an IP router.
Except the occasional warning messages, "corrupted 65535-byte packets", we
have no trouble with it. It's pretty nice cards with fast throughput
up to almost the theoretical limit -- 10 Mbps.
