Date: 12 Sep 1994 18:46:52 GMT Organization: Penn-State Ghoull Labs Lines: 38 Distribution: world Message-ID: <3527ms$12t1@hearst.cac.psu.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: akh104.rh.psu.edu X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2] First off I am using BSDI 1.1 (ala BSD/386) My "contract" will soon expire and I do not wish to pay a few $$$ for a personal copy. so... what public system would I use? Linux is out..cause its just plain ASSBACKWARDS from what I consider "normal." I have been using FreeBSD binaries and sources quite will with BSDI. A long time ago I used NetBSD..but it couldn't handle IDE drives very well without crashing everything... that was 0.9. The infamous WesternDigital wedge....that and my shells would always lock up. Now, as I understand it..FreeBSD is more PCish while NetBSD is for just about every machine under the sun. Which is more BSDI compatible/similar in function? and... what the heck is going to be the BIG difference between Net1.0 and Free2.0 (or 1.1.5.1.....e+3) ? Also...where can I purchase the LATEST COMPLETE... CDROM of this stuff? When I say COMPLETE...I mean: elm, emacs, lisp, pascal, X and everything for it...including tn3270 (the cool one 3.0?), LaTeX (and xdvi..etc..) AFS, etc..etc... I have a TON of stuff for BSDI and I want at least all of this stuff on the public bsd system. Thanks, -- Andrew K.
