The Sun is running Solaris. » » I believe Suns write 'variable' records and *BSD* (including » BSDI) write and read 'fixed' records. Hm, this isn't true. I have a Tandberg Streamer (quarter inch) at home. The sun writes fixed records with a record length of 512 bytes on it. FreeBSD let the streamer decide what to do. My streamer writes it with variable block size. By the way, both can read the other format... »>When I try reading the tape on my pc running FreeBSD 1.1(gamma), I get the »>following error "128104-byte record too big". My pc has a HP 35470A DAT. » » That's similar to the error I used to get. If the Sun can be told » to write 'fixed record' mode you likely will be able to read the » tapes. Try a st -f /dev/"device" blocksize 0. works for me on FreeBSD. Bye, Udo -- Der König sagte zum Priester: Halte Du sie dumm, ich halte sie arm !
