We had this discussion when the linux serial ports were looked at. Personally I think it's more important to comply with the rest of the unix world than it is to pacify the DOS users. I'm all in favour of easing the transition from DOS to unix but they're going to have a bit of a shock when they find everything else is zero based. They're going to be even more shocked when they find com1 and com2 don't even exist on other unix boxes. This change seems to be causing more confusion than anything else. Those die hard unix people feel uncomfortable with it and those with less experience are getting confused by conflicting messages relating to different com numbers. I think we should change back to zero based com ports. Well that's my gripe for the week out the way. -- Paul Richards at Cardiff university, UK. spedpr@uk.ac.cf.thor Internet: spedpr%thor.cf.ac.uk@nsfnet-relay.ac.uk UUCP: spedpr@cf-thor.UUCP or ...!uunet!mcsun!uknet!cf!thor!spedpr +++
