Cura) Newsgroups: comp.os.386bsd.apps Subject: Serious Ghostscript problems in NetBSD-1.0Beta (PLEASE READ!!!) Date: 19 Sep 1994 21:47:41 -0700 Organization: Portland State University, Portland, OR Lines: 63 Message-ID: <35lphd$bh2@jetsam.ee.pdx.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: jetsam.ee.pdx.edu To anyone who can help me, I'm really sorry if this isn't the correct newsgroup to post this to, but I've reached a dead end everywhere else, and the person I am supposed to contact, the author of the driver in ghostscript I am having problems with, has no experience with NetBSD, which I am running ghostscript under. If I haven't confused you yet, please read on... For some stupid reason, ghostscript just does not work correctly. It works, but not the way it's supposed to, at least in my case. My problem concerns my Stylus 800 printer. Has anyone out there used ghostscript with an Epson Stylus 800 printer? If not, maybe someone can relate to my dilemma and maybe even help me fix it. My problem is that the printer will print maybe part of a file, and then spit out a page in the middle of it, and then print maybe another part of it on the next page, then again, it will spit out the page, and maybe finish the job on another page. What happens is, even if the job is supposed to be only a page long, it may take five or six pages to do it, with a little part of the job on each page!! Not only that, sometimes the print will be garbled, as in parts of the printing will be out of place, sometimes only the top half of a whole line will print, as in only the top parts of each letter!! I've tried up and down and pulled my hair out many a time to fix the problem, (not to mention all the paper I've wasted). This is a list of things I have done, but none have managed to fix the problem consistently: 1. I tried to change the margins in my gdevescp.c file, didn't work, and made it worse, since top or bottom parts of my file would be completely cut out. 2. I have tried both gs-2.6.1pl.4 and gs-3.01, and neither of them fix the problem. 3. I e-mailed the writer of the stylus 800 driver, but he didn't know what was wrong, and since he used Linux, he couldn't help me out either. 4. I tried specifying the "-r360x360" option in the gs command line, but still no cigar. 5. Changed the jumper on my i/o card to make the parallel port two-way, but didn't work either. 6. I have tried to mail others, but no one knows what can be done to fix it. 7. I have tried different ways to change my printer configuration, but none have worked. Could someone out there please help me? I am in desparate need!! I must've recompiled ghostscript about fifteen times already, and nothing I do can fix this damn printer!!! Has anyone at all experienced the same problem??? Any replies, suggestions, tips VERY much appreciated. Sincerely, Melissa L. Cura mcura@ee.pdx.edu
