Goldsteen) Subject: Recommendations for a P5-90 system (what to look for, where to order) Message-ID: <CwK7oF.GDq@rex.uokhsc.edu> Date: Fri, 23 Sep 1994 01:48:14 GMT Reply-To: benjamin-goldsteen@uokhsc.edu Organization: Health Sciences Center, University of Oklahoma Lines: 33 I would like to buy a P5-90 16 MB RAM (16MB SIMMS, too) 2*PCI + 3*EISA (or better, no ISA) FAST SCSI-2 (NCR 5c810 on PCI) #9 GXE64 Pro or similar ATI Mach64-based PCI 1 GB FAST SCSI-2 HD (high quality) I thought I was going to buy this from Dell, but I think their shipping times are too long for my needs. So now, I am interested in advice and pointers on where I can find a *high-quality* system that more or less fits these specs. I am also interested in recommendations on BIOS's, chipsets, motherboards, etc. I would like to find a vendor who could deliver something like this in about four days from my purchase. Pointers on suitabilty would be appreciated. I have heard that OSs like QNX push hardware a little harder than other OSs. I have also heard that some motherboards can lead to unexplained failures and glitches (this person recommended AMI Enterprise III EISA motherboard...that was a while ago, though). I would like to keep this system for five years (I expect to increase the RAM, HD, etc, but I don't expect to throw the whole/most of the system out...upgradability to a P6 sounds nice) P.S.The reason I posted this to a lot of different news groups is that I would like to keep my options open: BSD, Linux, QNX, OS/2, WinNT, etc. Thanks! -- Benjamin Z.
