Can anyone help with X? Message-ID: <123853@cup.portal.com> Date: Fri, 30 Sep 94 07:40:16 PDT Organization: The Portal System (TM) Distribution: world Lines: 22 Hello da net. Can anyone help me with setting up X? I have the Walnut Creek CDROM with 1.0.2 freeBSD on it. The networking is functioning fine and the machine works also (a 486/33DX with 16 meg, a qntm 240 scsi, adaptec 1542C, and a stock as a rock TSNG 4000 1 meg video card. The monitor is a 1302 Sony multisync, but will only do a 56hz 800X600). I have loaded both Slackware and regular linux (and Coherant) and have had X running on all of them. I guess my question is: After running EXTRACT.sh from the cdrom to get the X stuff, I added X to my shell path, ran X386install, and modified my Xconfig to what I thought it should be. WHAT are the exact steps to follow (at least generally) after EXTRACT.sh?! Perhaps I am missing something. When I run X the screen will flash a couple of times, then dump me back to the original screen with "screwy looking fonts", unreadable, and hard locks the machine. I have also reinstalled BSD 3 times, with no effect. I have other video cards I could use, but I think I would create more problems. I know that every Xconfig varies, and have modified about 50 of 'em, but what other install scripts or setup routines do I need to run after this basic extraction process? Any help at all would be appreciated. THis is the last chance I am giving BSD as I am evaluating Unixoid OS's for PC's for work and HP Openview Jeff jfulford@bridge.com fnord@cup.portal.com Thanx again!!!
