Durham) Newsgroups: comp.os.386bsd.questions Subject: drq timeout problem with IDE on FreeBSD 1.1.5.1 Keywords: drq timeout IDE Message-ID: <30@w2xo.pgh.pa.us> Date: 30 Sep 94 04:06:51 GMT Organization: Jims Basement, Gibsonia,PA Lines: 21 I have been sucessfully running 1.1.5.1 for about a month with a 340 meg Seagate and IDE controller. I occasionally get drq timeout errors, with "<no dam>", I guess meaning "no damage", because I never see any problems other than the messages. I was using an MFM drive, with no problems. The IDE went in recently. That's when the messages began. I have a pretty old (circa 1989) AMI bios. I read somewhere that the timings in the bios routines were changed by AMI in the early 90's to accomodate IDE drives. Do I need a new bios? I also heard that the ROM bios routines aren't even used by FreeBSD, in which case what *is* going on? Thanks for at least reading this! -Jim Durham
