Actually the article did mention Minix and a quote by Tanenbaum. But, it was in relation to the "revolt" against AT&T code licensing. What I find interesting is the way Unix came to being (a bunch of people sharing ideas and building it). With the free unices today, it is repeat of what happened way back when.
