Can someone illuminate me on the DMA issue? I understand DMA, and I
know my 1542 uses DMA. My question concerns IDE. I was previously
under the impression that IDE used programmed (polled) I/O, which is
of course CPU intensive. Other people have told me that there are new
32 bit IDE controllers that do DMA, bus mastering, and the like on VLB
busses. True or false?

I harken from the workstation world, and try to make my PC look and
work like a Unix workstation, hence my SCSI choice. But I am
interested to know what IDE can do. Lastly, how popular is enhanced
IDE? Is is standard equipment on all shipping PCs yet? Supposedly
one can use 4 disks up to 1 gig with enhanced IDE? (Of course, it
still sounds like a hack, but as the previous posted said, sometimes
hacks are good. Especially when they save money.)

Flames to /dev/null...
