Well, I run Linux, and will probably get round to trying BSD -- sooner than
later if I could work out what's in it for me. So I want some comparative info
-- and it's hard to find.

I posted a really diplomatic query along these lines on c.o.l.a.
(researching a possible feature on linux and feeling I had to include some
solid stuff on BSD) and got practically no response. Too diplomatic I guess.
Don't wanna flamewar, jus' wan' info...

All that's available is the recieved wisdom: BSD's better for big
installations, for people wanting to do 'real' work, it's more 'serious',
Linux is just for kernel hackers (who BTW are destroying it's 'usefulness' by
not stabilising the system)...

So I feel that merely putting down information about the two system's origins,
influences, standards they conform to, areas they each excel in (or not) etc
would be very useful. I'm trawling FAQs but it all takes time. And what's
wrong with wanting to know?
