(freebsd 1.1.5.1, 486sx33, 8mb, 431mb)

I've tried to get my machine on the network, but I can't seem to be able to
do so.

I've tried two 3c503s, a 3c509 and a western digital that should work under
the ed driver. I've used all sorts of io_addrs, irqs, memory settings.
I'm beginning to suspect the motherboard/io card, although the 3c509's
autoselect mode did not find any conflicts and set me to 0x300 and irq=10.

The ed drivers all complain that they can't use the shared memory on the
card above the first byte (c8001, or d8001, or...). Is there a way to
disable the shared memory?

The 3c509 is quite interesting. The kernel recognizes it and uses it. I
can ifconfig it any way I want to. I can't route, though. Also, since
it's connected to a hub sitting next to me, I've noticed that the led that
should indicate a working connection is never on unless I ping to the
outside world (which is when it blinks). I rarely ever get a return,
though. The only "stable" way of using the card was by ping -f'ing the
router, and then using another session to telnet/ftp anywhere.

Also, when the ep0 driver finds the card, it prints out the arp address. I
went to another machine and ran 'arp my_machine', and came up with a
different number!

I'm not very familiar with network cards, and it's quite possible that I've
missed something that's blatantly obvious. I'd like to know where the
problem might lie, and exactly how I can solve it (short of chunking my
motherboard away... I'm cash-starved).

Please reply w/ mail. Our news link is notoriously slow, and I may never
get to see your responses.

Thanks,

Faried.
