I have had ETERNAL problems with the SMC All-In-One IO chips under WfWg 3.11, NT 3.1 with some service packs, BSD and if I had used a DOS comms prog. on the box, I'm SURE I would have had probs. as well. When I called the dealer, he admitted that the SMC chips are buggy and sent me patches at least for Windows/WfWg [I hadn't yet seen the prob. in NT, and I don't use NT to talk to the modem anyway...] The SMC isn't the only chip with this problem, but it's probably the most popular one, as it's now the "hip" thing to use on P5 motherboards even from [supposedly] reputable places like Micronics [that was mine]. >I had the same problem with a T-900x (do not remember) that has two >parallel and four com ports on it. Make sure you avoid the Evil SMC IO chips and clones thereof. --rafal /--------------------------------------------------------------------------\ |"Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit | Rafal Boni | | 15% of the earth, which is 100% more than they | r-boni@uiuc.edu | | have now..." -Cartoon caption in New Yorker | My opinions, not UIUC's | \--------------------------------------------------------------------------/
