I remember its name as HW.TROUBLES. Should be in / (?)

You should have ISA DMA emulation disabled and the interrupt turned
to level-triggered by your (DOS) EISA config program. Yes, both are
*NON*-standard.

After i did this (and raised the bus clock again to ~ 8 MHz -- sigh!),
everything worked fine.
