   I installed FreeBSD 1.1.5 when I try to edit passwd to add a user (my self)
   to stop using root. It fails just telling me that the user I add is unkown.

   hansf::501:100:Hans Petter Fasteng:/home/hansf:/bin/csh

First, make sure to use vipw to edit the password file.

Then add the line like this:

hansf::501:100::0:0:Hans Petter Fasteng,,,:/home/hansf:/bin/csh
