I'll save him the trouble -- you're quite silly.

NetBSD has had PCI autoconfiguration support for over a month. It
actually asks the PCI device what its interrupts/etc. are, and
autoconfigures them intelligently. The NetBSD-1.0 autoconfiguration
system actually is very intelligent, and supports interrupt sharing
(with devices and drivers what will do so), as well as auto-detection
and configuration of any device that is capable of reporting such in a
useful manner.

PCI and VLB have always worked in non-intelligent mode under NetBSD
and FreeBSD (i.e. the card works with ISA/EISA drivers). You must be
insane if you think people haven't been using VLB devices with NetBSD
and FreeBSD for well over a year.

NetBSD and FreeBSD have supported for a year to two years, and
continue to support ISA, EISA, VLB, and PCI peripherals that can be
used with the current set of drivers. In addition, NetBSD-1.0 has
intelligent support for PCI autoconfiguration. Now you can't say you
don't know.
