Date: 20 Oct 1994 20:53:37 GMT Organization: Applied Physics Lab/University of Washington Lines: 38 Distribution: world Message-ID: <kargl-2010941353550001@spleen.apl.washington.edu> NNTP-Posting-Host: spleen.apl.washington.edu I finally have obtained an ethernet card, but I have been unsuccessful with connecting to the net. I've rebuilt the kernel with the ep0 device configured. device ep0 at isa? port 0x300 net irq 10 vector epintr The machine boots and ``correctly'' probes the card. The card is attached to the net through its 10BaseT connector. I edited /etc/hosts, /etc/netstart, and /etc/networks to no avail. I have consulted Nemeth, Synder and Seebass and I am fairly sure the entries in these files are correct. I also looked through the FAQ (from freefall), but it does not include any useful info. From /etc/hosts 127.0.0.1 localhost 128.95.97.216 troutmask troutmask.apl.washington.edu 128.95.97.100 foogate From /etc/netstart ifconfig ep0 inet troutmask netmask 255.255.255 ifconfig lo0 inet localhost route add $hostname localhost route add default foogate ping localhost works as expected, but pinging any other local machine timeouts with 100% loss of packets. So, what is the magical incantation? -- Steven G. Kargl Applied Physics Laboratory University of Washington Seattle, WA 98105
