It's the 350VA version, a little old, but what the hell. I didn't have a manual for it, : called their technical support, and they shipped me out a manual in 3 days (for what I understand : is an almost 5-year old product.) My question to you Best UPS owners is this: : My machine is a 486/66 VLB with 32MB RAM : 2 WD Hard Drives 450MB and 540MB : Orchid 1280 VLB Video Board : Sound Blaster 16 : NEC CD-ROM : Adaptec SCSI controller : Archive 150MB Tape Drive : and : NEC 4FG Monitor : I calculted the power drawn by the above. The Computer itself draws worst case 150W. The NEC is : rated at 105W. Now I understand W and VA aren't the same and the 150W, I tried to put a 85% : efficiency factor in (switching supply.) My problem is this: When I have my monitor turned off : for more than an hour, when I turn it on, it resets my system. Just turning the monitor on and : off doesn't do this. Any Ideas? : --- : Gerry Simmons : simmons@darykon.wa.com -- Gerry: There is a degaussing coil built into the monitor that is activated when power is applied to the monitor. That coil draws a large surge of current for a short period when you first turn on a COLD monitor. (That's the buzz you hear when turning on a cold monitor). There is a thermistor that limits the current and cuts the circuit off when it heats up, hence no surge on a warm monitor. Once it cools off again, another surge at turn-on. This is probably the reason you're having power problems when the monitor is cold. I'd reccommend that you get the monitor off the UPS anyway, as that's a waste of back-up capacity and is not "mission critical".
