Just to add...

I asked some students around campus recently, re: why they run
Linux instead of *bsd...

Top 3 reasons:

3. They've heard more about it from other Linux users.

2. Some of the classes here are taught with Linux.

and... the real reason why students here use Linux:

1. DOOM for Linux.
