I would be grateful for some advice on /etc/ttys + ttyflags
under NetBSD 1.0 and tip and slip.
I used to use tip to talk to my modem, get it to do some
dialling and then set up a slip line (under NetBSD 0.9).
Now, I upgraded to NetBSD 1.0
- what was /dev/com0 seems to be /dev/tty00. Yes ?
- if I just use my old way of talking to the modem, tip seems
to fail on opening /dev/tty00 and complains that the link is down.
- it seems necessary to specify some flags for the serial
port via /etc/ttys and ttyflags. Is this right ?
- it seems necessary to use ttyflags to get /etc/ttys to take
effect ? Am I missing something here ?
* What flags do people normally use to talk to their modem on
a tty line ?
local ? rtscts ? mdmbuf ? softcar ?
I couldn't even get an `OK' response from my modem until I
began randomly playing with the flags.
Obviously, I left `off' amongst the flags since I don't want a
getty running.
* Could I run ttyflags from /etc/ttys ? If I ever guess the
correct tty flags ? Would this be a good idea to keep the com0
port happy ?
Many thanks
-Andrew
