Many people have compared it favorably to small Sun workstations. My 486DX2/80 runs almost neck-and-neck with my DECstation 5000/25 at work. The main difference that my DECstation constantly runs out of memory (with 24MB), where my 486 with 20MB usually runs nice and easy (this comes from the fact that RISC code is bigger, and NetBSD's shared libraries free up a lot more memory than Ultrix' staticly linked binaries). Where do i find installdisks and how many is it, is it true that it is only 7 disks gzipped ??. You can find the entire distribution on ftp.iastate.edu in /pub/netbsd/NetBSD-1.0/, among many other sites. It depends on what all you want to install. You can install just the bare-bones basic system, or everything you can get your hands on. It's your choice. Browse the FTP site and see for yourself. What kind of graphic adapter do i need to run X11?? Just about any will do. Find the FAQ for XFree86-3.1, also on ftp.iastate.edu in /pub/netbsd/XFree86/. X does not come packaged with NetBSD -- it is a separate package altogether. -- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Michael L.
