I don't actually think of it as sneaky, but sure, although what findings there are so far are strictly my impressions of a minor flood, a large part of which was just uninformative. There is a fair amount of consensus, apparently, that NetBSD outperforms Linux on specifically net-based tasks, but the picture (esp. with the newer patch levels of Linux) is by no means as clear. Linux is, by contrast, given higher honours (largely derived from subjective reports, but very consistent) for responsiveness at the console, at the price, apparently, of some efficiency in number-crunching and related activities, context switching being one of the reasons. In the stakes for being promising in terms of future support there is some ambiguity; Linux easily wins in terms of user-population and broadness of support, but BSD has a more unified, clear approach, which has, no doubt, its values. However one result of this is the suspect stability of each new Linux patch level until it is proven The above posted as a public service, FWIW, YMMV, etc, etc ....
